At Great Beginnings we place great emphasis on the overall well being of each one of our kids. An important aspect of this is their nutrition. Encouraging your children to eat healthier foods is one of the most important components to a healthy and happy development. And what better time to start then in the new year. It has healthy and delicious ideas about school lunches, baby food, and the overall food you provide for your children. It also has a weekly lunch/dinner menu as well as recipes. If you go on their facebook page it shows pictures of all the meals…looks delicious and healthy!

Holiday Show

Two Thousand and Eleven is almost over which means it’s time for our annual Holiday Show!!! With the help of our wonderful music and dance teachers our kids have been practicing this years program and are extremely excited to show you what they’ve learned.

As always we are very happy to welcome all parents, family members and friends to attend our celebration. Don’t forget to bring your cameras and recording devices, we would hate for you to miss these once in a lifetime memories.

So now the facts:

Great Beginnings North Hollywood is celebrating on Wednesday December 14th at 9am.

Great Beginnings Santa Clarita is celebrating on Thursday December 15th at 10am.

Great Beginnings Chatsworth is celebrating on Friday December 16th at 10:15am.

Each program should last about one hour and we hope to see many of you!!!

Welcome to the 2011/2012 School Year

It’s difficult to believe summer camp is over and our academic school year has begun. Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get some work done. Apart from getting to know your child’s teacher get familiar with the parent board in their classroom. On it you will find the weekly curriculum, daily chart as well as other announcements that need to be communicated. Don’t forget to look in your child’s folder for their completed art projects. These are keepsakes to treasure for us parents. Get to know your child’s teacher as well as the curriculum they will be teaching each week. The most important aspect in your child’s success is your involvement. This year, like every year, we have a wonderful curriculum planned for each age group with plenty of time devoted to academics, socialization, creative play, arts… With this said, on behalf of the entire Great Beginnings family we welcome you all to the 2011/2012 school year. It will be a great success!!!

Car Seat Safety – New Recommendations

Dear Parents,

Recently the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) announced new safety recommendations for car seats.

As of April 2011 all infants and toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Safety Seat until they are 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car safety seat’s manufacturer. Afterwards all children should use a belt-positioning booster seat until the vehicles seat belt fits properly (approximately at 4 feet 9 inches and between 8 and 12 years old.) Finally, children younger than 13 should ride in the back seats of a car.

The previous policy, from 2002, advised that it is safest for infants and toddlers to ride rear-facing up to the limits of the car seat, but it also cited age 12 months and 20 pounds as a minimum. As a result, many parents turned the seat to face the front of the car when their child celebrated his or her first birthday.
